[Frequently Asked Questions for New students]

For freshman who is preparing to enter SKKU Natural Science Campus, We summarized FAQ as below in order to reduce your concerns and questions.
During the new semester's entrance and exit period, it may be difficult to make a call because there are many phone inquiries in the dormitory. Before you ask by phone, please read the contents below first and call us if you have any questions that have not been resolved.
Please refer to the dormitory recruitment announcement for the dormitory application and presentation schedule.

Q. If I cancel my admission or drop out, will my dorm be automatically canceled?
A. No, you need to apply for the cancellation of the dormitory separately from the cancellation of admission and dropout. We recommend that you cancel the dormitory first. However, if you have already canceled the admission process, you cannot apply for cancellation of the dormitory in GLS, so please call dorm office.

Q. What is the capacity of the dormitory?
A. The Natural Science Campus (Suwon) dormitory can accommodate a total of 3,785 people, which is considered a very large dormitory among university dormitories nationwide. Therefore, the competition rate is not severe compared to other schools, and although there is fluctuation from semester to semester, the competition rate is maintained at an average of 1.2:1.

Q. Is there a distance standard for selecting a dormitory?
A. Our dorm does not take into account the distance or residential area when selecting. Therefore, students living in the Gyeonggi/Seoul area, or students living in Jeju Island or overseas, can all apply for the dorm and be selected.

Q. Based on what criteria do new students be selected (first semester of the first year)?
A. New students are selected randomly for the first semester of the first year. It doesn’t mean that all applicants can pass the dorm they applied. It means that they can be assigned to the dorms without failure. If you do not fill out 2-8 preference, you will be randomly assigned to the dorms with the remaining seats. However, the quota for freshmen is limited to 35% of the total dorms.

Q. Based on what criteria do students be selected (after the second semester of the first year)?
A. From the 2nd semester of the 1st year, Students will be selected based on the grades of the previous regular semester. It is not selected by department/grade, but based on the grades (average score) of the previous semester by the dormitory (building/room type) that you applied for. Therefore, the cut line for each semester varies depending on the status of applicants and the distribution of grades by dormitory. You can find the cut line in the comprehensive guide of the dormitory recruitment announcement.

Q. What is the process of selecting the dormitory?
A. In the 1st and 2nd selection, 100% of the dormitory capacity will be selected. If a vacancy occurs due to cancellation, additional dormitory recruitment (application for waiting list) will be conducted. The first and second selection are not on a first-come, first-served basis, so you only need to apply for before deadline. You can only apply by GLS. Regarding how to apply, Please check the notice about dorm application.

Q. Can I apply for the 1st and 2nd duplicate applications?
A. Students who passed the first application and have completed the payment cannot apply for the second application. The dormitory is automatically canceled if you do not pay within the deadline, so if you do not pay first, you can apply for the second application. However, since the second application quota is set, there is a possibility that if you cancel on purpose and apply for the second application, you may be eliminated from the dormitory selection.

Q. What should I do if the admission announcement is delayed from the dorm schedule?
A. Freshmen who cannot apply during the 1st and 2nd dormitory application period can apply for waiting list.

Q. What is the application for waiting list?
A. After the 1st and 2nd rounds of selection are completed, there will be cancellations. We accept dormitory applications on a first-come, first-served basis for these cancellations. You can select several room types on the 1st and 2nd applications, but you can only apply for one room type for waiting lists. So you have to check the status of vacancies for each room type before applying. Information on the status of vacancies and how to apply will be announced separately on the dormitory website.
Please take note that all students can apply for the waiting list, and the priority selection of new students is not applied.

Q. How do I pay for the dormitory fee?
A. After the announcement, you must check and print the bill directly from GLS. You can pay the amount on the bill (dormitory fee + meal fee + deposit) to the virtual account issued. Dormitories cannot be paid in installments or by credit card, but can only be paid to a designated virtual account. If the deposit amount is different, the payment is impossible, so you have to transfer the exact amount. Virtual accounts have different account numbers for each student, so the name of the depositor is not important.

Q. How much is the dormitory fee?
A. Dormitory fee is set by days, and it varies depending on room type. Please check the notice of appication inforamtion for detailed dormitory expenses. The deposit will be fully refunded if there is no problem after checking the condition of the room when leaving.

Q. Can my family enter the dormitory?
A. For the safety of the dorm, outsiders are prohibited from entering the dorm. Please understand that parents and family members are also not allowed to enter.

Q. What happens if I cancel my dorm or leave the dorm in the middle?
A. If you complete the application for cancellation of your dorm by the day before check-in, you will get a 100% refund. If you leave the dorm after check-in date, you will get a refund with deducting 15 days of dorm fees from the remaining days. However, if the remaining days are less than 30 days, only the deposit will be refunded.
Even if you apply for cancellation on the day of check-in without check-in, 15 days of dormitory fees will be deducted. Therefore, if you plan to cancel your dorm, you must complete your application one day before the date of check-in.
Cancellation is possible at GLS, and applications for check-out after the date of check-in, must be made by visiting the dorm offce. In the case of mid-term check-out, if you apply after your actual leaving date, you will be refunded based on the date of application.

Q. What are the curfews and the number of nights I can stay out?
A. The curfew in the dorm is from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. on weekdays and applies only to undergraduate students. The curfew will be lifted during weekends and exam periods. You can stay out freely, but it is recommended to report when you are away for more than 5 days. You can report overnight at GLS.

Q. I'm curious about the dormitory facilities.
A. You can see pictures of rooms and convenience facilities, and furniture layout for each dormitory in the dormitory's website menu.

Q. Is there a standard for allocating roommates? Is it possible to assign them in advance?
A. In principle, roommates should be assigned students from different departments, and they will be assigned in consideration of the sleeping type selected when applying. The pre-designation of roommates (dommate system) is not allowed for freshmen, and applications can be made from the second semester of the first year. However, you must meet the criteria for applying for dormate. Please refer to the application information.

Q. Are there any procedures that need to be carried out after check-in the dormitory?
A. After check-in the dormitory, you must proceed the procedure below. The detailed schedule will be announced separately on the website.
1. Submit a check-in list (1 penalty point if not submitted): You can submit it at GLS.
2. Take the Orientation course (2 penalty points for non-attempted course): It is conducted online and must be taken on the i-Campus (online course page).
3. Fire drill (2 penalty points if you do not participate): Fire drill is conducted every semester.
4. Submission of check-out list: You can submit the Check-out list at GLS during the Check-out period.

Q. What if there is a problem with the dormitory facilities after check-in?
A. You can apply for repair at QUICK MENU on the right side of Bongryonghaksa's website. It can only be completed by log-in, and the dormitory facility team will check and process it sequentially.

Q. Can I stay in the dormitory during vacation?
A. Yes. You can apply for summer vacation in May and winter vacation in November. However, the dormitory can be reduced during vacation, so make sure to check the notice and apply.

Q. I'm a freshman at graduate school. I need a dormitory to go to the lab during my pre-admission vacation. What should I do?
A. Graduate new students who have been assigned a student number can enter the company during the vacation period before entering the school. If you apply for the 1st and 2nd applications, you can live from the regular check-in date, and if you apply for a waiting list, you can check-in two days after the approved date. (However, you can check in only if there is a vacancy.)
Graduate new students who check-in in advance during vacation must submit a recommendation letter from their professor on the day of check-in. The recommendation form can be downloaded at the dorm website.
