Can Korean students use the self-catering kitchens?

The self-catering kitchens in In-kwan and Ui-kwan are off-limits for Korean students. Foreign students who wish to use them need to apply for permission. Foreign students living in the dormitory may, for cultural or religious reasons, be unable to use the dormitory cafeteria, so these places are provided for them to cook their meals. The self-catering kitchens are only for this purpose, so please understand this policy.

How long can I store my luggage when leaving?

In case you cannot leave on the official leaving day, luggage can be kept for a maximum of 7 days in the following locations:

In, Ui, Ye-kwan - Store Room, Basement 1, In-kwan
Ji-kwan - Store Room, Basement 1, Ji-kwan
If you wish to store luggage, 3 boxes per person can be kept for seven days. Please note that if you do not collect it then it will be sent to your registered address by courier with payment on receipt.

How can I clean the drain in the shower or washbasin in Shin-kwan?

How to clean the shower rooms in Shin-kwan

As shown in the photo above, when you turn the two circles marked with arrows, there is a part which will come off. (Because of previous residents, some are missing.)
Second, Arrow 1 is the part which comes off, as mentioned above. If you look inside you can see a handle (middle), and a big groove (Arrow 2). There is a part with a deep indentation (Arrow 3). Hold the handle and turn it. When the groove is aligned, it will come off.

Third and finally, there is an internal pipe for water drainage. If the entrance has hair, dirt accumulated over time, chopsticks, etc., please remove this and do not put it down the drain.
How to clean the washbasin drains in Shin-kwan

As shown in the photo, start from the small one, match the shape, and lift it up.
Second, lift the big one as in the photo..
Third, remove this, then you will find the same part as in the shower room. Now remove this as you would the shower drain.

How can I prevent toilets in Shin-kwan from becoming blocked and what should I do if they do?

Please study how to prevent blockages and what to do if it happens so that you can prevent it and solve the problem. If it still remains blocked after your attempts, please request assistance on the dormitory website by going to "My maintenance requests".
How to prevent toilet blockage
Shin-gwan's toilets are economical on water, so they use little water and the pipe only has a diameter of 50cm, so the toilets cannot handle a lot of toilet paper.
Precautions when using the toilet
1) Please use toilet paper which will break up in water well.
2) Please do not put wooden chopsticks, feminine hygiene products, pens, etc. in the toilet.
3) If the toilet is blocked, don't flush it any more, use the plunger, then after the water has gone, flush.
In Shin-gwan, there is a room for storing cleaning equipment by the elevator on every floor. You can find the plunger here. In other buildings, the toilets or bathrooms have plungers.
What to do when the toilet is blocked
1) Put the plunger into the toilet, making a tight seal around the opening to the outflow pipe.
2) The middle section of the plunger should be in line with the base to ensure maximum pressure..
3) Put pressure on the handle of the plunger, and pump 5 times in 3 seconds.. After the fifth pump, pull the plunger out with vigour.
4) Repeat until the water flows away as normal.
5) After solving the problem, please rinse the plunger and replace it where you found it for the next user..

When can sheet covers be changed and how can I get them?

Sheet covers are waterproof and are only supplied to female students.
If the sheet cover is torn and badly stained, then after confirmation by staff it can be changed.
If there has been no sheet cover from your admission, or when you would like it to be changed, please visit the management office in your building to request a new one. You can receive it after confirmation by staff.

How can I submit my chest x-ray result?

Because of the nature of communal life, we try to prevent problems caused by infectious disease, so you must submit a clear chest x-ray result. See below for how to submit this.
1. On-campus free health check-up participants: please tell the health centre that you will participate in this. The health centre will notify the dormitory of your participation and your result, so you do not need to submit anything to the dormitory.
2. Non-participants: Go to any public health centre or an internal medicine specialist clinic and ask for a chest x-ray with tuberculosis test results. Submit the results of this to the management office in your dormitory building.
* The on-campus health check-up is in March each year.

Can I get a receipt for payment of the dormitory fee?

The dormitory price is subject to neither income tax deduction nor tax refunds, so a cash receipt would not be of any use. Therefore, the dormitory does not issue cash receipts, but can issue a confirmation of payment. This can be done when you send the dormitory fee from a bank or ATM by requesting a form confirming that the money has been sent.

1. Handling deposits
① Students: Login to GLS → Menu → Application/Qualification management → Application about student life → Dormitory refund account and photo registration → Refund account, refund bank, account holder → Save
② Management office: The facilities team and cleaning team will check the room and see if any deductions are to be made. Any damage costs will be deducted and the accounting office will be notified of this.
2. Precautions when entering your account into GLS. See below.
① This account will be used for deposit refund and anything else related to dormitory refunds.
② Confirm that you have registered the right bank account.
③ You are responsible for any delay or confusion resulting from an error in the registered bank account.
④ When doing a group wire transfer, we cannot confirm the owners of the relevant accounts, so if the account number is wrong then the payment will go amiss. Please make sure you enter the account number correctly.
3. Required time
After payment, the deposit and refund will be transferred to the accounting office, so it will take about 3 weeks from the application date (not including holidays). In the event of your failure or mistake in registering a refund account, the refund may be delayed or go missing, so please register before the leaving date. The dormitory will contact residents who have entered details incorrectly before attempting a second round of refunds. The bank does not allow us to check the bank number with the account holder, so please input the correct account number.

Important:
1) A maximum of three boxes can be stored.
2) Only boxed items can be stored. Fragile items and valuables (including computers) cannot be stored. (The dormitory cannot be held responsible for any damage, loss or fungus buildup that may occur during storage. Responsibility lies with you.)
3) Items may be stored for a maximum of 7 days. If you do not claim your belongings and there is damage, loss or fungus resulting from this then the respondibilities lies with you. 4) Storage place

The price is calculated based on the daily rate from the entry date., and after transferring the fee you can enter the dormitory. (Meal ticket options are available.)
However, if there are fewer than 15 remaining days of the regular stay left then even if there are vacancies, there will be no admissions.

What is the difference between early admission and extended stay?

Early admission: The system whereby you may take up residence in your room before the semester starts
Extended stay: The system whereby you may extend your stay in the dormitory after the semester ends
(The schedule for early admission and extended stay will vary depending on management, so please refer to notifications closer to the time.)
Early admission is not possible before the vacation starts, and it is not possible to extend your stay beyond the end of the vacation.
